Flu [Shot]

Two years ago I was convinced to get the flu shot for the first time ever because I had been feeling unwell. Guess who got the flu, shortly thereafter, for the first ever in my life that year?

Last year? I didn't get the flu shot or the flu.

While there are a bunch of "recommended" and whatnot shots that are "suggested" before going for hajj, the only required one is the flu shot. So I got it.

Guess who got the flu?

Possibly twice. [Considering I had much more than just the "hajji" cough when I got back from hajj end of October and they all point towards the flu.]

No, I am not saying that the flu shot causes the flu.

All I am saying is: I have better luck without the flu shot. And if I am going to get the flu anyways, why bother getting said shot?

I think I'll take my chances.

What's for Dinner: Chocolate Cake [with Rolo]

This year, for Ayaz's birthday I made a Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I then decorated the top with rolo candies and drizzled caramel on top.

Last year? I made the M&M and Kit-Kats cake.

What's for Dinner: Breadsticks

For Ayaz's birthday, yesterday, I made my bubble-up pizza, a chocolate cake [with choclate frosting] with rolo candies and drizzled with caramel... and these breadsticks!

You need:
  • Pizza dough
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • Basil Powder
This particular day, I used the Pillsbury refrigerated pizza dough [thin crust]. You can find my pizza dough recipe by clicking here.

What I did was:
  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough onto my pan.
  3. Drizzle olive oil on top, and use a brush to evenly spread over the dough.
  4. Sprinkle italian seasoning, garlic powder, and basil powder on top.
  5. Bake in my preheated oven for about 10 minutes.
Cut them into whatever sized pieces you want. Serve them with marinara sauce!

By the way, click here to get the recipe for my Garlic and Cheesy Breadsticks.

What's for Dinner: Tomato Soup

A few weeks ago my cousin made tomato soup on a cold day that was absolutely delicious... and I finally made it today. What I love about it is how easy it is to make, the fact that I didn't need to let it roast for 40-60 minutes [I just used the broiler instead] and that it didn't need chicken broth, cream, or anything of that sort. Simple, quick, and delicious. My kind of recipe.

What you need:
  • 1 pound of tomatoes, halved
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 5-6 garlic cloves
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • basil and oregano, to taste
  • Olive oil
What I did was:
  1. Season the halved tomatoes, sliced onion, and garlic cloves with salt and pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.
  2. Set under the broiler until they are roasted. Doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes.
  3. Blend everything in your blender until it is nice and smooth.
  4. Add basil and oregano and warm over low heat.
Serve warm!
